I STRIVE FOR NATURAL LIVING
I love striving for all natural living. Obviously, we cannot control what happens outside of our homes, so choosing products that we do have control over is important.
I have previously used different all natural cleaners, and still continue to swap different cleaning products out. (It’s a process, and can certainly take time.) This all purpose cleaner was one of the first non-toxic cleaning products I actually made myself, and it was super easy.
INGREDIENTS & SUPPLIES FOR NON-TOXIC ALL PURPOSE CLEANER
- 20 drops of doTERRA On Guard essential oil
- 4 tablespoons of liquid Castile Soap
- Distilled water (about 14 oz)
- 16 oz glass spray bottle

ON GUARD ESSENTIAL OIL
On Guard is one of doTERRA’s most popular blends, known as the protective blend. It is a blend of Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Leaf, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils. This combination makes it a powerful surface cleaner because these oils are packed with cleansing properties.
Together, these oils can also support a healthy immune system and can protect you against airborne germs. I like that when cleaning, especially during cold and flu season! This blend has a woody, warm, and spicy aroma.
CASTILE SOAP
Castile soap is a plant-based soap that is completely natural with no harsh chemical additives or detergents. Most soaps are made from animal fats, whereas Castile soap is made from organic coconut oil, olive oil, hemp oil, and jojoba oil. This is something they are very proud of and even have an independent third-party certification that ensures their products meet the highest standards for ecological and social sustainability.

DISTILLED WATER
I prefer distilled water in my cleaning supplies because the water is heated to leave behind certain contaminants like viruses and bacteria. Tap water can contain these contaminants, so since we’re going for the best clean factor here, this seems like the best choice.
WHY A GLASS BOTTLE
Glass bottles are a great choice for housing blends with essential oils because the oils can interact with the plastic.
Also, if the bottle will be left out or you think the blend will be in there for a long time, amber bottles with a dark tint help protect the oils because they are sensitive to light. I use a clear glass bottle when I am frequently remaking my supplies, and I always store in a dark pantry.
WHY I DON’T USE VINEGAR IN MY ALL PURPOSE CLEANER
Although vinegar is a great cleaning agent, it may not be safe for all surfaces. And since I wanted my all-purpose cleaner to be safe for anything, I chose to leave it out.
Vinegar can be corrosive to granite countertops overtime. Likewise, it may not be a great option for some metal finishes or on certain surfaces with a sealer.

HOW TO MAKE EASY NON-TOXIC ALL PURPOSE CLEANER
Fill your glass bottle at least 3/4 of the way with your distilled water
Add your essential oil and liquid Castile soap
Top off with distilled water and put the sprayer back on
Give it a little shake before each use to mix the ingredients together
There you have it!
WHAT SURFACES IS THIS ALL PURPOSE CLEANER FOR
I could use one of these in every room in the house! It’s awesome because it really can be used anywhere you want to wipe down dirty surfaces and disinfect.
Here are some places I consistently use it:
dining table, kitchen countertop & sink, walls, light switches, refrigerator messes, door knobs, changing tables, floors, car steering wheel and seats, gym equipment… the list goes on!
Really, the only place I don’t use it is for glass or mirrors. Because the Castile soap contains oil, it can leave streaks. It can certainly be used to clean it, but I would always follow it up with my glass cleaner spray.
