Designing a bright, rustic nursery seems to be conflicting, but I will give you all the tips in this post. My son’s nursery came out just how I imagined.

Before we knew the gender of our baby, I was envisioning the design of the nursery. If we had a baby boy (which we did), I knew I wanted one stained shiplap wall and the rest white.
When you think rustic, you think darker colors, and nothing really crisp. I wanted to make sure the room didn’t get to dark, so this is why I wanted to just have rustic touches.
Keeping all the furniture items, and most walls white, really helped to keep this room looking bright and clean.
Furniture Items For a Bright Rustic Nursery
White Crib & Crib Sheets: Crisp lines with the crib and keeping the sheets white, helped not to distract from rustic wall behind it.
You can find the Carter’s by DaVinci Colby Crib on Amazon. A bonus is that this crib is Greenguard certified.

Cream Glider & Ottoman: A white ottoman just sounds scary. The cream glider and Ottoman I chose has fairly clean lines, and still on the warmer side to tie into the rustic tones.
Also by DaVinci. You can find the cream glider on amazon, or a few different places, such as Target or Davinci’s website.
White Dresser: A dresser is often your bulkiest item, so this can end up being a statement piece depending on what you choose. Choosing one that blends in with the walls and other furniture, will help it to not feel so big.
I found this one on Facebook Marketplace, and revamped it with some chalk paint. Check out my dresser post to learn How To A Dresser With Chalk Paint.

Window Treatments: Although this is not really a furniture item, these can also be a big statement piece. We know blackout curtains are important! I wanted to make sure to have those, but keep it light, so I went with a cream color close to the glider and ottoman. Again, still warm tones.
The curtains are from Target: Threshold’s Aruba Linen Blackout Curtain Panel.
Rustic Touches For a Bright Rustic Nursery
Shiplap Wall: A shiplap wall creates texture and gives the room more dimension. We chose a medium stain color, special walnut, so it wouldn’t be too dark.
We used shiplap boards that have a tongue and groove latch. This is a quicker installation, but you can also have your hardware store cut plywood into strips and space out the boards on the wall for a more cost effective solution. We did this in our living room.

Mobile: Mobiles are not as common as they used to be. If you can find one that still compliments the rest of your decor, I think it is a nice accessory and it gives your baby something to look at right over them.
I found the mobile for the nursery on amazon. It doesn’t have much contrast, but it was my favorite out of all the ones I was looking at. I like that it still pops out just a tad from the shiplap.
Cowhide Rug: An accent rug helps to obviously accent the room and items in it. The key is to make sure it isn’t too small. It can really be placed over carpet or other surface.
I loved the idea of a cowhide look, but wanted to make sure it was soft, so it would be comfortable to crawl on. Plus, I didn’t want shedding inside a baby area. This faux cowhide rug that I found on Amazon is amazing. It’s so soft, and I love it.
Bookshelves: Not that you need bookshelves, but the simple stained wood bookshelves just added a small rustic touch to that side of the room. This is just an idea for any type of wall decor.
I made the bookshelves from scratch with my sister. Check out my post Easy DIY Bookshelves For Nursery to learn how to make these.
