Warmer weather calls for sandals and sun! I’m all for that, but that also calls for some foot TLC.  Of course, if you can exfoliate your skin throughout the year, that is even better!

Foot scrubs are great for removing dead skin and softening up those drier areas.  It’s also a perfect way to relax and relieve tension.

This is a great routine for dry, cracked skin and heals.  Between the soak, the scrub and the lathering after, it is sure to leave your feet rejuvenated.

Ingredients For Non Toxic Foot Scrub

  • Epsom Salt
  • Organic Cane Sugar
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • Essential Oils

Epsom Salt

Epsom salt is a great source of magnesium sulfate, which is known to lower stress and muscle tension.  I love the course texture it provides for exfoliation, to really work into those areas that may be extra rough and dry.  Adding a tablespoon or so to your foot soak before your scrub helps increase its absorption and benefits as well!

Organic Cane Sugar

Sugar is another widely used exfoliator and one I combine with the Epsom salt to create a perfect blend of larger and smaller crystals.  This really helps remove all those dead skin cells and leave your feet feeling softer.

Fractionated Coconut Oil

There are a handful of oils that can be combined with the Epsom salt and sugar, such as olive oil or almond oil, but I prefer fractionated coconut oil.  Fractionated coconut oil stays in its liquid form, allowing for easy mixing.  Aside from its amazing moisturizing properties, coconut oil also has antimicrobial and antifungal properties.  Cleaning, healing, moisturizing… yes please!

Essential Oils

There are so many combinations of essential oils that are beneficial, but I wanted to keep it easy. So peppermint, lavender and frankincense – here’s why I chose them!

Peppermint essential oil has a cooling and invigorating aroma.  I love the fresh and clean feeling it provides.  Peppermint is great for tired, achy feet.  Its cooling effect really helps to relax those foot muscles.

Lavender essential oil is known for all things relaxation, so it was a must for this scrub.  Lavender also helps relieve aches and pains, soothe tension and calm occasional skin irritations

Frankincense is a highly valued oil, widely known as the ‘king of oils’.  It is oftentimes used for skin care because of its cellular rejuvenation and wood healing properties.  It is also anti-inflammatory, which is a great addition to the other benefits in the foot scrub.  Its warm and spicy aroma, combined with the fresh and floral scents from the lavender and peppermint really make a great blend.

Applying essential oils to the bottoms of your feet actually has some great benefits.  The bottoms of your feet are porous and bountiful in nerve endings.  This allows essential oils to enter the body more quickly so you can benefit from them faster!  A perfect gateway to reach the rest of your body.  So not only do your feet benefit, but your body also gets the benefits the essential oils provide!

Lastly, I love to apply one of my favorite essential oils, Yarrow pom.  Yarrow pom is known as the ‘fountain of youth’.  Yarrow Pom helps to inhibit the enzymes that breakdown elasticity and collagen.  It’s a great oil for your hands, face and feet to help them stay looking youthful.  It is also perfect food for those skin cells after a nice scrub!

How To Make Non Toxic Foot Scrub

  • 1 cup Epsom salt
  • 2 tablespoons organic cane sugar
  • ¼ cup fractionated coconut oil
  • 8 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 4 drops lavender
  • 3 drops frankincense
  • ( Follow foot scrub with a foot massage of coconut oil and yarrow pom! )

Add Epsom salt, sugar and coconut oil into a bowl and stir well.  Add essential oils and stir again until well combined.  Scoop scrub into an airtight container to store or use right away!

Use:

Soak your feet to help soften your skin.  Add about a tablespoon of the foot scrub to a warm foot bath, soak and relax for 10-15 minutes.  Remove feet and use a pumice stone to begin the removal of rough areas.  Then, use your scrub to massage and work especially into the dry areas.  Massage into all surfaces of your feet and then let the oils soak into your skin for another 10 minutes.

Rinse, dry and follow up with Yarrow Pom! I usually do this right before bed, so all the moisture can soak in overnight.  Just add a pump of coconut oil and 2 drops of yarrow pom to your hand and massage into your feet. Yarrow Pom helps to inhibit the enzymes that breakdown elasticity and collagen.  Perfect food for those skin cells after a nice scrub!

How Long Does This Non Toxic Foot Scrub Last

Although this can last awhile, its best if used within a few months!  But usually, it’s gone before then anyway!
